1. Changes to HotDocs 10

A number of changes were made to the HotDocs namespace beginning with the HotDocs 10 release. These changes, outlined below, are important to understand if you are upgrading from an earlier version of HotDocs 10.

Product Name: HotDocs is now available in four different editions:
- HotDocs Developer: Previously known as HotDocs Professional Edition
- HotDocs Developer LE: Previously known as HotDocs Standard Edition
- HotDocs User: This is a new product similar to HotDocs Player, but it can assemble any template and does not require a HotDocs publishing key.
- HotDocs Player: This free version of HotDocs, which can assemble only published, registered templates, is still known as HotDocs Player.
File Names: The following files have been renamed for HotDocs 10:
- hotdocs.exe (formerly hotdocs6.exe)
- hotdocs.dot (formerly hotdocs6.dot)
- hd_api.dll (formerly hd6api.dll)
- hd_dispatch.exe (formerly hd6dispatch.exe)
Default Installation Folder: By default, HotDocs is now installed in C:\Program Files\HotDocs instead of C:\Program Files\HotDocs 6.
Registry Keys: HotDocs now stores registry information in the following locations:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > HotDocs > HotDocs
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > HotDocs > HotDocs
(Previously, these registry keys were found under "... > LexisNexis > HotDocs 6".)
Word Processors: HotDocs now supports the use of the following new word processors:
- Word 2010
- WordPerfect X5
Interviews
- Silverlight Interview: Templates intended for use with HotDocs Server can now be test-assembled using the Microsoft Silverlight web application framework.
- Desktop & JavaScript Interviews: Desktop and JavaScript interviews have been updated and improved for HotDocs 10.
PDF Support: The functionality previously provided by HotDocs PDF Advantage is now integrated with HotDocs 10.

3. Known Software Issues Fixed in HotDocs 10.2

The following software issues, which existed in HotDocs 10.1, have been resolved in HotDocs 10.2:

Fixed issue where paragraph numbering in an inserted template was lost (Issue #4359)
Deleting the last repetition in a series now moves you to the previous repetition (Issue #4351)
Pressing Ctrl+A now selects all text in multiline fields of component editors (Issue #4329)
Fixed a crash when modifying database componenets while the test window is open (Issue #4320)
Fixed a focus issue with child dialogs on repeated dialogs (Issue #4316)
Dialog element images are now listed as a template dependancy if image is missing (Issue #4311)
Custom install now sets Word 2010 and WordPerfect X5 file paths correctly (Issue #4310)
HotDocs no longer crashes in some circumstances when using the Select button at a picklist dialog (Issue #4308)
HotDocs can now publish a template to HotDocs Server when the filename contains characters "-mo" and template contains INSERT instruction (Issue #4291)
Image dialog elements with image file names only now work in Silverlight Test in Browser interviews (Issue #4285)

4. Known Software Issues Fixed in HotDocs 10.1

The following software issues, which existed in HotDocs 10.0.3, have been resolved in HotDocs 10.1:

When two dialogs contain list-style Multiple Choice variables in the same location, artifacts such as the selected option are no longer carried over when moving from one dialog to the next. (Issue #4272)
In browser interviews, HIDE and SHOW now work properly with dialog elements that appear multiple times on a single dialog (Issue #4266)
Grouping True/False variables on a dialog that contains the same dialog element multiple times now works correctly (Issue #4265)
When the operating system's language uses a comma as the decimal separator, Silverlight interviews no longer fail to compile (Issue #4254)
Deleting a variable that has focus in Form Document tab no longer causes an error (Issue #4246)
Styles are no longer removed during assembly of template with multiple nested inserts (Issue #4244)
Hidden columns with long prompts in spreadsheet on parent dialog are displayed properly when subsequently shown (Issue #4236)
Variables outside of dialogs are no longer asked in default interviews (Issue #4233)
List entries used in ListNum fields are no longer removed from the RTF list table (Issue #4222)
An imported library linked to a remote machine will not disappear on opening HotDocs if remote machine is unavailable (Issue #4216)
HotDocs can now find the Acrobat X Professional executable (Issue #4213)
Date formats will not incorrectly change in Computation variables (Issue #4212)
Double ampersand no longer displays as two ampersands in multiple choice drop-down list (Issue #4211)
Default style information is no longer changed in an assembled document (Issue #4210)
Multiple Choice variables in spreadsheets now keep focus on clicking drop-down list, when first row of variable is grayed out (Issue #4207)
Icons do not lose focus when adding an item to the HotDocs library (Issue #4206)
The HotDocs Outliner button is now hidden in 64-bit Word 2010 (Issue #4202)
Intermittent "Error reading the file" error no longer occurs when reading encrypted component file in HotDocs Player (Issue #4201)
Double-clicking a date in the Calendar dialog now inserts a date into the interview (Issue #4191)

6. Known Software Issues Fixed in HotDocs 10.0.2

The following software issues, which existed in HotDocs 10.0.1, have been resolved in HotDocs 10.0.2:

End of Interview checkboxes now remember selections (Issue #3859).
Limit on number of templates that may be simultaneously published increased (Issue #3885).
Incorrectly drawn items in Answer Wizard and pop-up interview are now displayed correctly (Issue #3890).
Next dialog is no longer calculated before interview is updated when Instant Update is turned off (Issue #3915).
Static PDF content appears correctly when overlaying answers (Issue #3943).
Resources now appear immediately in database component dialogs (Issue #3966).
Text variable patterns are now correctly updated on navigating between dialogs (Issue #4008).
Cross-references no longer update to '0' when INSERT instruction is placed immediately after referenced paragraph number (Issue #4014).
HotDocs libraries that are imported for 'Assembly Only' can now be deleted (Issue #4020).
Auto-resizing of spreadsheet column takes account of 'Other' answers for multiple-choice variables (Issue #4021).
Delete key in multiple line text fields removes one character instead of two (Issue #4091).

7. Known Software Issues Fixed in HotDocs 10.0.1

The following software issues, which existed in HotDocs 10, have been resolved in HotDocs 10.0.1:

Components used in a plain text resource are now treated as being "used." Previously, Template Manager and the Used In tab of component editors did not list these components as being used. (Issue #3850)
HotDocs scripts that check to see if a Multiple Choice variable's answer is "None of the Above" now return the correct answer. (Issue #3876)
Various issues have been fixed related to focus while interacting with the interview dialogs.
Multi-line prompts for True/False variables are no longer truncated when the prompt position is set to Left. (Issue #3882)
Answers containing line breaks no longer overlap cell boundaries when displayed in a spreadsheet (Issue #3894)
Form templates that use a custom interview, and also automatically disable irrelevant variables and dialogs, no longer produce empty interviews. (Issue #3909)
Scripts in repeated dialogs now run under the correct repeat context. (Issue #3877)
Right-aligned number variables now appear right-aligned in spreadsheets. (Issue #3899)
Script link dialog elements now display an image on the button if an image is specified. (Issue #3913)
Double-clicking in Word documents that contain comments no longer causes erratic screen flickering and dialog scrolling. (Issue #3928)

8. Known Software Issues Fixed in HotDocs 10

The following software issues, which existed in HotDocs 2009, have been resolved in HotDocs 10:

Tables with vertical text now appear correctly in the Preview pane. (Issue #2838)
Answer Files are now included in HDA packages as Additional Files. (Issue #3029)
Passwords are now being read correctly for HDI files (Issue #3049)
Automatic update now works properly with downloaded updates that include an HTML survey form. (Issue #3053)
Can now drag and drop a PDF form onto HotDocs Automator/Filler if it is launched via Edit Template from the HotDocs library. (Issue #3076)
Library Window plugins now correctly add menu entries. (Issue #3102)
HotDocs Plugin initialization has been made more reliable. (Issue #3103)
HotDocs no longer crashes when deleting a dialog from the component file. (Issue #3105)
Publishing a Template Set in a Single Auto Install File (HDI) is more responsive. (Issue #3116)
The HotDocs library window no longer has redraw problems after installing updates. (Issue #3117)
Component file formats are now correct when pointing to a shared component file with a long file name. (Issue #3118)
"Send to Filler" option has been added to the End of Interview dialog. (Issue #3126)
HotDocs no longer crashes on an attempt to view merge text while copying components from one file to another. (Issue #3177)
HotDocs no longer crashes after assembling .HDA files using templates with ASSEMBLE instructions. (Issue #3179)
The "View" property for HTML Help and Folio Help resources in no longer lost when opening a CMP file. (Issue #3187)
Answer source dialogs can now correctly find Multiple Choice answers. (Issue #3198)
HotDocs no longer crashes at the Document Preview window due to retention of old meta-data. (Issue #3259)
When saving or printing a filled HPT, installed fonts are displayed correctly. (Issue #3309)
Double-clicking a word field in protected document no longer causes Word 2007 to stop responding. (Issue #3320)
Full template descriptions are now included in HDI files. (Issue #3321)
Answers no longer change when returning to the Interview from the Question Summary tab. (Issue #3341)
The '½' character now appears correctly in PDF files if the font style is Black. (Issue #3344)
The ANSWERED( VAR ) model now works correctly in a JavaScript interview if the variable is grayed. (Issue #3365)
Clicking on a resource icon with a defective URL address in the Resource tab no longer generates a script error. (Issue #3373)
The Insert Row button no longer has to be clicked twice in order to insert a row. (Issue #3376)
Customized Clauses are no longer overwritten when HDI updates are installed. (Issue #3417)
If Markup View is turned on at the assembly window, assembled documents no longer use markup view too. (Issue #3486)
